Man City have conceded 21 goals this season, more than Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea and Southampton, and there have been well documented issues with Joe Hart this season so interest in Spanish international Casillas is perhaps unsurprising.

The World Cup winner has been frozen out of Carlo Ancelotti’s first team much as he had been during the latter stages of Jose Mourinho’s reign in charge. Indeed the 32 year old hasn’t played a single minute of La Liga action this term and may well be considering his options in January.

Ramos has felt Ancelotti’s wrath this season, not least for his two sendings off, and could perhaps also be ready to consider a possible Real Madrid exit.

Given that Pablo Zabaleta must be one of the first names on Pellegrini’s team-sheet interest in the 27 year old would be with a view to Ramos being used in a centre-back role, where he could be seen as an ideal partner for Vincent Kompany though clearly summer signing Demichelis has impressed in that role this term.
