French forward Loic Remy reckons he has the ability to play for one of Europe’s biggest clubs, reports the Express.

He’s bagged 13 goals for the Magpies so far this term, but his loan deal from QPR expires at the end of the season. Although Newcastle will no doubt want to keep hold of the 27-year-old, his excellent form has alerted the attention of other clubs, most notably Arsenal, who could trigger his £8m release clause.

While he is grateful for the opportunity Newcastle have given him, the forward harbours ambitions of playing at the highest echelons of European football.

“In Newcastle, you can feel people in town who make you feel welcome. They are nice. The fans forgive me for having joined QPR in January 2013 while they expected me to sign,” Remy told France Football.

“Without being pretentious, I could perhaps play at a bigger club, a club in the top five in Europe.

“Yes, I will be part of Europe’s top five or I will be part of a very big club. I’m sure of what I can do. I can be a lot better. I still have quite an enormous amount of room for improvement.

Arsenal currently have Frenchman Olivier Giroud spearheading the side, with French youngster Yaya Sanogo acting as his backup.

While Giroud has bagged 12 goals in the top flight himself, his finishing has occasionally been brought into question. Remy is rated as the more clinical of the pair, and for £8m, he could prove a summer transfer bargain.
