Reds stopper chose Anfield over over Bundesliga switch.

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has claimed that he rejected a move to German and European champions Bayern Munich last summer in favour of a switch to Anfield instead, according to Inside Futbol.

The alleged enquiry came when Sakho was still at boyhood club Paris Saint Germain when his availability became known to the German giants.

Bayern were keen to do a deal to bring him to the Alianz ArenA, but their advances were surprisingly met with a show of apathy from the France international.

“In my 12 to 13 years at PSG, several clubs tried and among them was Bayern Munich”, Sakho was quoted as saying to L’Equipe.

“My father, though, did not want to me to leave for the club.”

Sakho ended up joining Liverpool instead last summer after growing increasingly frustrated at falling down the pecking order at the Parc des Princes.

In his final season with Paris Saint Germain he clocked up 34 appearances across all competitions and helped the club to the Ligue 1 title.

However, he has since struggled to get a foothold in the Liverpool starting line up this term as a thigh injury had kept him on the sidelines for two months.
