The young Belgian has impressed this season as PSV have kept the pressure on arch rivals Ajax at the top of the Dutch league table, and his performances have caught the attentions of the likes of Barcelona, AC Milan and Liverpool.

And it has become clear that the latter have received a huge leg up in their affections as negotiations between the 18-year-old and his current club over a new deal have broken down.

The right-sided winger has just over a year remaining on his present deal, and with PSV aware of the growing interest in his signature they have offered countless new deals only to be rejected time and again by the youngster.

And, Marcel Brands, PSV’s sporting director, all but ended hopes of a long stay at the club, saying: “We have done our best, we will not to run after him,” to Voetbal International.

“We offered a great proposal and that is all we can do. It is up to him and we understand if he is happy or not.”
