Reina has spent the season on loan with Rafa Benitez’s side and has impressed with a string of fine performances both domestically and in Europe over the course of the campaign.

However, Reina still has two years remaining on his current deal with the Reds, and is due to report back to Anfield when the Italian season ends this month.

But with Simon Mignolet not letting go of his grip on the number one spot in Merseyside, Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he doesn’t see a future at the club for the Spanish international.

Napoli, though, have been buoyed by this news and are planning on opening talks to keep a hold of him on a permanent basis.

Sports director Riccardo Bigon told +N tv: “Reina is a very important player both on the field and off.

“At the end of the season we will talk with him and Liverpool, we are interested to hold him here.

“He has been fine in Naples, he has a very close relationship with the coach (Rafa Benitez) and also his family has settled very well.”
