Liverpool have rebuked an initial approach from Real Madrid for striker Luis Suarez according to Football Direct News.

The Spanish giants have been linked with an interest in the Uruguayan international for some months and this may well be just the first of many attempts by the La Liga side to land the 27 year old Anfield ace.

Bernabeu president Florentino Perez has earmarked a move for Suarez this summer as he looks to bring in the latest in a series of new ‘Galaticos’ following last summer’s world record acquisition of Gareth Bale.

Suarez finished as top scorer in the Premier League having amassed 31 goals whilst also weighing in with 12 assists to help Liverpool to mount a genuine title bid.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will hope his side can continue to thwart Real Madrid’s advances though the fear must be that Suarez could be tempted by a move to the Spanish capital at which point the Merseyside outfit would surely demand a fee in excess of that paid for Bale a year ago.

Suarez moved to Liverpool in January 2011 in a £22.8m move from Ajax.
