The 28-year-old has just one more year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates, and the club are keen to tie him down to a longer term contract.

However, Vermaelen is said to be unsure over committing his future to Arsene Wenger as he has featured just 14 times this season and does not want to spend any more time as a defensive back up.

But the Belgian stopper has said that he is not even thinking about his future until the side’s FA Cup final clash with Hull is out of the way.

“It is not important at the moment, my future”, Vermaelen was quoted as saying.

“We are in front of an FA Cup final and my focus is there. My future is not important at the moment.

“We know there has been a lot of talk about not winning a trophy for a long time and so for us it would be important to win the final.”
