Arsenal and Liverpool are the favourites to sign Wilfried Bony this summer after the player’s agent revealed he wants to leave Swansea City for a bigger club, the Daily Star reports.

The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a strong debut season in the Premier League, scoring 16 times in 34 games to help the Swans to survival in the top flight, while netting a further nine goals in all competitions.

The 25-year-old had attracted some interest from bigger clubs last summer prior to his Swansea move, after netting 37 goals in 36 appearances during his final season with previous club Vitesse.

However, a move to Newcastle United fell through on that occasion, and his agent Dalibor Lacina says that the Magpies no longer stand a chance of signing him as his value has risen to around £20m.

A move to a top six club in England or one of the other major European leagues is now the hope for Bony, though his agent also admitted he could remain at the Liberty Stadium for another season.

“I spoke to Newcastle about Bony last summer. Newcastle should have bought Bony a year ago but they didn’t believe in him,” he said.

“They could have signed him for £10m, but they said they weren’t sure if he was good enough, that he was only playing in Holland. Now he is worth £20m.

“The next step for Bony is a top-six team in England or a top team in Germany, Spain or France, or he will stay with Swansea.”

With both Arsenal and Liverpool in the hunt for new signings upfront this summer, they are currently regarded as the favourites to land him if he does move in this transfer window.
