France and Honduras start their 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil as the two sides go head-to-head at the Estadio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre.

The French will go into the game as favourites, but their opponents will be aware that they have started slowly in the last three tournaments and also crashed out in the group stage in both 2002 and 2010.

The big blow for Didier Deschamps’ men ahead of the competition was the news that Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery would have to pull out due to a back injury.

However, they still have a squad packed full of stars and the big decision for Deschamps will be whether to start with Karim Benzema or Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud in the No.9 role.

Despite his impressive form in the warm-up matches, it’s expected that Benzmea will get the place, with Giroud likely to get a chance to make an impact on the game from the bench.

As for Los Catrachos, there is a certain air of mystery around the team as it’s still unknown whether they will opt for a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 formation against the French.

Forward Carlos Costly has been training despite an injury scare on Thursday and should be available, with Jerry Bengston expected to start alongside him.

Defender Bryan Beckeles is also ready to play despite being sent off against England in the country’s final warm-up match.
