Liverpool have completed the signing of Adam Lallana from Southampton, the club’s official website have confirmed.

Lallana, who captained Southampton, enjoyed an excellent Premier League campaign last time out, which saw him become an integral part of England’s World Cup squad as well, and he went on to make three appearances for Roy Hodgson’s side in Brazil.

Throughout the course of the season, he scored nine and assisted five goals, impressing fans and neutrals alike with his excellent creative spark in the final third – and he was voted into the Premier League Team of the Year as a result.

“I’m so excited for the next chapter of my career, coming to a special club like Liverpool. I’m quite humbled and I just can’t wait to get started,” said the 26-year-old.

“Hopefully I can settle in quickly, and I will give it my best throughout the whole time I’m here. I hope I can add something to the team and hopefully we can win trophies while I’m here, because that’s why I’m here – for success.”

Lallana becomes Liverpool’s third signing of the summer, following deals for his former Southampton teammate Rickie Lambert and Bayer Leverkusen ace Emre Can were completed.

He is now expected to compete with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Coutinho for attacking midfield starting roles in 2014/15.
