Liverpool are on the verge of completing the signing of long term target Lazar Markovic with the Metro claiming the Anfield side have agreed a price for the youngster.

The 20 year old Benfica attacker, who played a prominent role in his side’s Primeira Liga title triumph last term, is set to join the Merseyside club with a £19.8m deal having been accepted by his Lisbon based employers.

Markovic will sign a five year contract and will become the Premier League side’s fourth summer signing following the successful captures of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can.

The former Partizan Belgrade man is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football and the signing fits well with Liverpool’s youthful transfer policy.

The Serbian international started 30 matches in all competitions in his debut season in Portugal, scoring seven goals.

Markovic is a winger with real potential and given Liverpool’s pursuit of Xherdan Shaqiri and their decision to not look to make the temporary move for Victor Moses a permanent one it would appear that youngster could be a player Rodgers looks to bring in to strengthen his options in the final third.
