Arsenal are closing in on two summer signings with Newcastle United right-back Mathieu Debuchy and Barcelona attacker Alexis Sanchez seemingly set to join the north London club.

The Daily Mail claim that 28 year old French international Debuchy is on the ‘brink’ of completing an £11m move to the Emirates Stadium having undergone a medical.

Debuchy will replace Bacary Sagna as Arsene Wenger’s first choice right-back, a move that may leave youngster Carl Jenkinson considering his options.

It’s no surprise that Magpies owner Mike Ashley would cash in on one of his side’s top talents though boss Alan Pardew will hope that he is handed funds from such sales to help refresh his squad this summer.

Debuchy forced his way ahead of Sagna in Didier Deschamps’ national team set-up at the World Cup and is a more than capable performer with bags of experience.

Arsene Wenger is also close to securing the signing of Chilean Sanchez with Arsneal having had a £32m bid for the adaptable forward accepted by La Liga side Barcelona.

Though Barcelona may finished last term without securing any silverware Sanchez did individually have his best season to date, netting 19 goals in 27 La Liga starts, the former Udinese man then followed that run of form with a strong showing at the World Cup finals.

Wenger will hope Sanchez offers overworked Frenchman Oliver Giroud able support in the Gunners attack but can also be used in a wide attacking role where there may well be need of back-up given the injury and fitness concerns over both Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott, who started just 23 Premier League fixtures between them last term.
