Southampton are readying a bid for Colombian international Pablo Armero as the south-coast side look to replace Luke Shaw according to the Daily Mirror.

Newly installed Saints boss Ronald Koeman will launch a £5m bid for Napoli star Armero, who played a key role in his nation’s impressive run to the World Cup quarter-finals.

The 27 year old spent time on loan at West Ham last term and started all five of Colombia’s World Cup fixtures, scoring a goal against Greece, and is a player Koeman can certainly afford to pursue with his reported £70m transfer war-chest.

Koeman has seen the aforementioned Shaw leave for Man United whilst Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert have left for Liverpool with other top performers likely to follow and as such the Dutch manager will be looking to stem the exodus with moves for solid, cost effective, replacements.

Armero is an experienced and capable performer who may well be the ideal option to fill the left-back berth at St Mary’s.
