Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers could be set to spend as much as £135m on new signings this summer, following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona, the Daily Mirror reports.

The Reds look in real need of strengthening ahead of next season after losing their best player and top scorer for a fee believed to be in the region of £75m, which should help fund the arrivals of a number of new players in several positions.

The likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Emre Can have already been brought in by Rodgers, and a £20m deal for exciting Benfica youngster Lazar Markovic is also believed to be close to completion.

The Northern Irishman could make further raids on Southampton, with Croatian defender Dejan Lovren and England striker Jay Rodriguez thought to be among his main targets.

Rodgers may also be set to raid his old club Swansea City for the signings of left-back Ben Davies and goalkeeper Michel Vorm, though Liverpool’s interest in Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony may have cooled, making Belgian youngster Divock Origi the club’s main target upfront.

The Merseyside giants will be hoping to avoid a similar fate to Tottenham Hotspur, who sold Gareth Bale for £85m last summer but spent rashly on some sub-par replacements for their squad.
