Etihad Stadium side bring in experienced England international.

Check in to Newcastle United vs Manchester City

Man City have officially confirmed the signing of former Chelsea legend Frank Lampard on a loan deal.

The experienced midfielder has already completed a permanent move to new MLS franchise New York City FC, who are jointly owned by Man City and MLB side New York Yankees, and will represent the Etihad Stadium side until January.

The 36 year old will offer Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini another midfield option, a move that coincides with Jack Rodwell’s move to Sunderland, and is one that the England international is excited about.

“Joining up with Manchester City is a fantastic opportunity for me to continue to train and play at the top level and make sure I am in top condition for New York City.

“It has been an amazing few days for me since the unveiling in Brooklyn and everyone connected with both clubs has been fantastic to me. This is a new chapter of my career and I’m really excited about the experience.

“I met Manuel and some of the players in New York and I’m looking forward to getting into training and making a contribution for Manchester City ahead of my move over to New York.”

Lampard left Stamford Bridge in the summer after 13 seasons at the club, finishing his spell as Chelsea’s leading goal-scorer of all time, and one wonders just how Blues fans will take to his short-term move to their Premier League rivals.
