Premier League champions Manchester City and FA Cup winners Arsenal will meet at 3pm this afternoon in the traditional start-of-season Community Shield match at Wembley Stadium.
Both sides will be hoping to make a strong start to the new campaign and win any psychological battles over each other as they look likely to be among the main contenders for the Premier League title in 2014/15, with Manuel Pellegrini’s side perhaps the slight favourites in what should be an entertaining encounter.
These two teams are known for their commitment to attack-minded football, and produced a memorable game at the Etihad Stadium last season as City ran out 6-3 winners as both sides went goal-crazy.
Arsenal’s new signing Alexis Sanchez will be the player in the spotlight this afternoon as he makes his debut in English football after a £35m transfer from Barcelona earlier this summer.
