The 28 year old Ivory Coast international is looking to leave St James’ Park and a number of sides across Europe are keen on landing the tough tackler but Tiote may well be on his way to the Emirates Stadium.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a steely midfielder, and has been linked with the likes of Real Madrid battler Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon youngster William Carvalho this summer, and Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is ready to allow Tiote to leave for a little as £8m.

Tiote proved a huge success in his first two campaigns on the north-east, playing a pivotal role in Newcastle United’s fifth place Premier League finish in 2011/12, before suffering a bout of average form in the following season.

Wenger has handed the captain’s armband to Spanish veteran Mikel Arteta, but the former Everton man has a year to run on his deal and that fact aligned with the French manager’s assertion that Mathieu Flamini is not a first team regular would appear to make Tiote a sensible acquisition.
