Everton have completed the signing of Chelsea winger Christian Atsu on a season long loan deal.

The move has been confirmed by the Daily Mail, with Atsu becoming the Toffee’s fifth summer signing. The 22-year-old spent last term on loan at Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem and is yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues.

Roberto Martinez has confirmed the deal and has been scouting the former FC Porto man for a number of months, monitoring the attacker most recently at the World Cup, where he was in action for Ghana.

Everton took Romelu Lukaku on loan from the west London side last term, with the Belgian netting 15 Premier League goals, and then elected to sign the 21 year old on a permanent basis this summer for a club record fee of £28m.

The Merseyside club have also signed another former loanee Gareth Barry this summer, along with Muhamed Besic from Ferencvaros and Brendan Galloway from MK Dons.

Atsu would have been some way down the Chelsea pecking order if he were to have remained at the club for 2014/15 with boss Jose Mourinho able to select from the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Andre Schurrle, Willian and Mohamed Salah to fill wide-attacking roles.

Speaking at a press conference earlier today, Everton boss Martinez confirmed that he was hopeful of signing another forward player before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
