Arsenal are set to sign Napoli forward Eduardo Vargas according to the Daily Mirror.

The 24 year old Chilean caught Arsene Wenger’s eye during the World Cup finals and is said to have all but secured a loan deal with his Serie A employers.

The player’s representatives are said to be traveling to London to complete the ‘formalities’ and Vargas is set for a medical ahead of a season long loan switch.

Vargas will join his fellow countryman Alexis Sanchez at the Emirates Stadium and will help to beef up Wenger’s options in the final third.

The Santiago born attacker can play in either a wide or central role and joined Napoli back in January 2012 but has spent much of his time out on loan at Brazilian side Gremio and last term at La Liga outfit Valencia.

Eduardo Vargas has a strong record at international level having netted 15 goals in 32 appearances and scored during Chile’s group stage win over Spain.

Arsenal had to overly rely upon Olivier Giroud as a central striking option last term and both Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott have struggled with injuries and fitness over the past year so Vargas could be especially useful to act as cover for the wide-men.
