Tottenham will look to use Roberto Soldado as bait in their pursuit of AS Roma forward Mattia Destro according to the Daily Express.

White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the 23 year old Italian for some weeks but it seems unlikely that Stadio Olimpico manager Rudi Garcia will be interested in such a deal.

Soldado managed just two goals from open play in the Premier League last term, that following his £26m move to north London, whereas Destro finished as AS Roma’s top scorer despite having only started 14 Serie A fixtures (netting 13 goals in the process).

Last term Spurs were indebted to Emmanuel Adebayor for goals, with the Togo international in fine form following Tim Sherwood’s appointment, but Pochettino may well feel he needs a fresh option in the final third.

Destro would be a useful addition but one imagines only a straight cash offer would tempt Garcia, so that he could then reinvest funds in a proven goal-scorer.

Soldado had no problem finding the back of the net in his native Spain, scoring 114 goals in five seasons at Getafe and Valencia.
