Barcelona could be the latest club to show an interest in taking AS Monaco striker and Liverpool target Radamel Falcao on loan this summer, with Luis Enrique short of options upfront.

With Alexis Sanchez leaving for Arsenal earlier this summer, and the likes of Gerard Deulofeu and Cristian Tello going out on loan to Sevilla and Porto, respectively, Barca suddenly find themselves somewhat short of options upfront as backup to their first choice attacking stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar and Pedro.

Falcao’s availability has put a number of top clubs around Europe on alert as the transfer window draws ever closer to shutting, and the Catalan giants are now thought to be keen on securing his signature on a season-long loan deal to enhance the club’s options to speahead their attack.

The Colombian international was a big hit in La Liga during his days as an Atletico Madrid player, and another Spanish side in Real Madrid are believed to be among the leading contenders to sign him this summer.

Liverpool and Juventus are also among those interested, with the Reds still searching for a top quality replacement upfront after Suarez made the move to the Nou Camp earlier this summer.

It remains to be seen which club Falcao will choose, though it has previously been suggested that a move to Real Madrid would be his preferred choice, so it may be that he will spurn advances from their arch rivals.

Falcao could join other big names such as Ivan Rakitic and Thomas Vermaelen in signing for Barcelona this summer, as Enrique looks to shake up the squad that struggled so badly under Gerardo Martino last term.

If Falcao does end up rejecting an offer from Liverpool, there may not be a great deal of time for Brendan Rodgers to find a top class striker to partner Daniel Sturridge this season, which will be something of a worry for the club after they relied so much on the goals of Suarez in 2013/14.
