Liverpool are set to sign former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o on a one-year deal, report the Metro, who suggest that Eto’o has undergone a medical overseas ahead of a prospective move to Anfield.
Eto’o was released by the Blues at the end of the season despite a respectable season at Stamford Bridge, following a fallout with manager Jose Mourinho related to jibes made by the Portuguese boss over Eto’o’s age.
With the Reds also looking set to sign £16m striker Mario Balotelli from AC Milan, it could be a decisive day for the Reds in the transfer market as Brendan Rodgers looks to significantly strengthen his attacking options following the departure of top scorer Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
If Rodgers is able to conclude deals for Eto’o and Balotelli, however, the Northern Irishman is likely to feel that, along with Daniel Sturridge, he has three forwards capable of causing problems and scoring goals against any opposition.
The likes of Eredivisie champions Ajax and local rivals Everton have also been linked with Eto’o, but it appears that the Cameroonian international has opted to accept a deal on the table from Liverpool, perhaps to give himself one last chance of a shot at major honours such as the Premier League or Champions League title.
