David Ornstein reckons Gunners will only move for a backup centre-back or holding midfielder…
Arsenal fans may be left disappointed come September 2nd when the transfer window closes, with respected and reliable BBC journalist David Ornstein claiming that it’s unlikely the Gunners will sign a striker, despite the injury to Olivier Giroud.
The Frenchman could be out until 2015, having injured his ankle against Everton, meaning Arsene Wenger only really has Alexis Sanchez and Yaya Sanogo as viable forward options until Giroud’s return.
Here’s what Ornstein tweeted this Wednesday:
#AFC unlikely to sign striker despite Giroud injury. Not definitive but current plan is existing options rather than buy/loan #bbcsportsday

Following this statement, Ornstein claimed that it’s far more likely that Arsenal would bring in a backup squad player, probably either a centre-back or a defensive midfielder, rather than the striker the fans are desperately crying out for.
#AFC still want CB/DMF (maybe someone who can do both) but likely to be squad player not big name as (esp CB) will be back-up #bbcsportsday
