Arsenal could be set to make one of the surprise moves of the summer as they enquire over the availability of Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj.

The Belgian wonderkid was one of United’s bright stars of last season’s highly disappointing campaign under David Moyes, becoming a key player for the Red Devils and establishing himself as one of the most promising young talents in Europe.

However, Januzaj’s future looks uncertain at Old Trafford after the recent arrival of Louis van Gaal, who has spent big money on signing Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid, while January signing Juan Mata is also ahead of the 19-year-old in the pecking order at the moment.

The likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus have shown an interest in Januzaj in the past, but it now looks as though Arsenal could try their luck with a bid for the player before the transfer deadline.

Arsene Wenger is known to be in the market for attacking players after losing Olivier Giroud to injury, but may look to strengthen out wide instead of upfront as Alexis Sanchez looks set to fill that role in Giroud’s absence.

The Chilean international, a £35m signing from Barcelona earlier in this transfer window, has shone in that position before despite mostly being used on the flanks during his time at Barca, and Wenger is looking at the likes of Torino star Alessio Cerci to come in in the wide areas.

Theo Walcott’s absence through injury also means there is need for Arsenal to sign players in that position, and Wenger is a big fan of Januzaj as he is always keen to work with the best young players in world football.

Januzaj may be tempted by the chance to move to the Emirates Stadium to continue his development, and it is looking increasingly likely that van Gaal will not stand in his way if he chooses to leave, as he seemingly does not feature in his plans at the moment.

Still, United would prefer to avoid losing the promising attacker to one of their rivals, and it could take big money for Arsenal to snap him up, though they may also try for a loan move.
