The 32 year old is currently playing second fiddle to youngster Thibaut Courtois and is ready to leave the west London side in search of regular first team action.

Rodgers is said to be keen on free agent Victor Valdes, who left Barcelona over the summer, but has now turned his attention to Cech and may be confident of luring the experienced goalkeeper to Merseyside.

Brendan Rodgers has ran out of patience with Simon Mignolet and is urgently seeking a fresh option between the sticks and believes Cech may be the best available option.

Cech hasn’t started a single Premier League match this season, an unusual situation for the former Rennes man, and Liverpool are ready to offer around £8m for the long serving Blues star.

Rodgers served as youth and reserve team boss at Chelsea and has retained a strong relationship with Jose Mourinho and could feel that he could tempt the club to allow Cech to leave in January.

Mourinho has Mark Schwarzer in his squad as a potential back-up option to Courtois, who could well be set for a lengthy spell as Chelsea’s number one, and given his years of exemplary service the west London side may be ready to allow Cech to leave if he desires a move away from the club he joined back in January 2004.

Cech has made a total of 472 appearances for Chelsea, helping the club to three Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph among a host of honours.
