Both players are out of contract at the end of the current campaign and have both played a key role in their side’s excellent start to the season.

Under new boss Marcelo Bielsa Marseille have won seven of their nine Ligue 1 fixtures and sit top of the table, Gignac being the league’s top-scorer.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers spent vast sums on new players over the summer and as such may be advised to look for more cost effective options in January and winger Ayew and striker Gignac may both be tempted by a move to Anfield.

Interest in Gignac may well be down to the ongoing injury issues suffered by Daniel Sturridge as well as Mario Balotelli’s poor run of form since moving to Merseyside.
