Gerrard has spent his entire career at Anfield and was a key part of the Liverpool side that came so close to winning the title last season and has also been key for the side this time around, despite criticism from some quarters as opposition teams have desperately sought to limit his influence on matches.

Rodgers remains a huge fan of his captain however and will hope to secure a new contract in the coming weeks, a deal that is likely to ensure that Gerrard ends his career at the Merseyside club.
