The England youngster, who has been in absolutely superb form over the last year or so, has confirmed he is in ongoing talks with the Reds over a new deal, and that his priority is to remain where he is and continue his development.

Having established himself as one of the best young players in Europe in recent times, Sterling’s fine form has seen him linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, though it may be that he will spurn any offers from the Bernabeu for the moment.

The 19-year-old started his career with Queens Park Rangers before joining Liverpool’s youth setup, and he looks to have the makings of a club great if he continues his remarkable progress, even if Brendan Rodgers’ side have struggled with some disappointing results so far this season.

After losing Luis Suarez to Barcelona in a £75m deal this summer, the club will be desperate not to lose more of their big names, so Sterling’s words will be good news for the fans.

“The club has spoken to my representatives and hopefully something can be done really soon,” he said.

“Hopefully I can achieve the goals I want to achieve here at Liverpool in years to come.”
