Man City Consider Offer For Infamous Real Madrid Defender

The Citizens have been linked with another high profile defender to help solve their issues at the back.

Manchester City are interested in Real Madrid centre-back Pepe, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Pepe was linked with a move to Easlands two years ago, but stayed put in Madrid, and was an integral part of the club’s Decima success.

The 31-year-old is still first choice in Madrid, but may be keen on one more big move before he retires. His contract expires in 2016, so the fee would be relatively small for City.

The deal would make sense for both clubs. Pepe is 32 and coming to the end of his time in Madrid, who will lose him for free in 18 months if they don’t sell him soon. Madrid also risk losing brilliantly talented 21-year-old Raphael Varane if he doesn’t become first choice shortly.

City on the other hand desperately need Champions League experience and a bit of brutality to go with all their pretty play. Pepe would be a great partner for Vincent Kompany, and a great tutor for Eliaquim Mangala.

The Portuguese international has been in good form this season, and was imperious in shutting out Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi in Real’s Clasico clash with Barcelona last month.
