Arsene Wenger believes the reason for Alexis Sanchez’s fantastic form since making the switch to the Premier Leauge is that he is no longer in Messi’s shadow, according to the Mirror.

The Chilean has really hit the ground running since his move to the Emirates, and his 13 goals in all competitions have been vital to Arsenal’s success this season.

Wenger claims that he was a periphery figure at Barcelona, and was not given the freedom he needs to play. At Arsenal however, he has been unleashed and allowed to shine.

Luis Suarez has been struggling slightly since his big money move from Liverpool to Barcelona, and the Arsenal boss says he is now in the same position Sanchez was last season.

“It’s not easy in a team where you have such a dominant figure as Messi. The game naturally goes through the strong point – so in Barcelona the game goes through Messi. It means the other players become a bit more peripheral,” he said.

“You could see now when you watch Barcelona, Suarez was a super-dominant figure at Liverpool and sometimes now you think ‘Where is he?’ I’m certain he will find his place but it’s not easy for the players there.”

He admitted that he had to be careful with his top summer signing, and that he had to manage him carefully over the busy Christmas period. With international star already such a huge part of Arsenal though, the Frenchman will have to be very careful about which games he chooses to rest him in.
