Liverpool Linked With Move For Newcastle United Enforcer

Reds could move for Newcastle star Cheick Tiote.

Liverpool could look to secure a deal for Newcastle United defensive midfielder Cheick Tiote in the January transfer window, report the Mail, despite the fact that the Ivory Coast international has attracted negative headlines in the last 48 hours after being pictured driving with a bottle of champagne.

The Reds are sure to put any controversy surrounding the player to the back of their minds if they feel that Tiote can come in and make an impact on a team who could only labour to a dismal 0-0 draw with Sunderland at Anfield on Saturday, with a lack of bite and impetus evident from the performance of Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Whilst Tiote is far from the most talented player in the Premier League, he is able to provide a physical and combative presence in central midfield, something that Liverpool have lacked to a certain degree this season, with the likes of Steven Gerrard and Jordan Henderson offering creativity and work rate rather than raw physicality.

Newcastle will be keen to keep hold of Tiote, however, after he became a key part of the team that has performed so well in recent weeks and arguably saved the job of their manager Alan Pardew, with a famous 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday just the icing on the cake.
