Cissokho signed permanently for Aston Villa from Valencia in the summer, penning a four year contract at Villa Park, despite the fact that he was coming off the back of a disappointing season at Anfield that saw him struggling to really make an impact in the left back role under Brendan Rodgers.

The report suggests that Villa manager Paul Lambert is very keen on keeping Cissokho at Villa Park, but has instructed his scouts to sound out a potential replacement left back in case either Tottenham, or Serie A side Napoli who are also being linked, make a significant offer for the player.

Both Tottenham and Napoli are said to be considering January moves as they look to strengthen the left back position, with Spurs keen to improve their options in that area despite having spent big on youthful Swansea City left back Ben Davies in the summer transfer window.
