Manager Brendan Rodgers reportedly sees the attacking midfielder as a replacement for the soon to depart Steven Gerrard, with the club legend set to join LA Galaxy in the summer after 17 years at his boyhood team.

Liverpool were first linked to the signing of the 25-year-old back in 2013, but the Armenian elected for a move to Signal Iduna Park instead of Anfield. However, now that Gerrard is leaving, Rodgers has decided to look at the midfielder again, and the German giants may be open to a move.

The Bundesliga side have been struggling this season, and find themselves third bottom of the league and in danger of relegation to the second tier. The performances of Mkhitaryan have dipped along with the team’s poor form, and manager may cut his losses on the player he paid £24 million for less than two seasons ago.
