The Englishman made a quip about his infamous gilet when a journalist asked him about it straight away, saying, “F****** hell, I thought it would be two seconds before I heard a gilet joke. It was one!”

Along with this the 46-year-old claimed that he wants to build his team around the talents of misfiring striker Christian Benteke. This is similar to the way he brought Emmanuel Adebayor in from the cold at Tottenham in his former effort at football management. He also revealed that he took the job before opening any contract negotiations.

He said, “When I got the call it was a no brainer, I said, ‘Yes, I’ll take the job and we negotiate after’.”

Later he added on the Benteke and Adebayor similarities, “I used Adebayor as the catalyst and pretty much revolved all our play around him. It is possible that it could be similar here. We hope it will be the case with Christian because we know what a threat he can be. It is bringing that player back to life and enhancing what is around him. I will send out attacking teams whenever we play.”

Sherwood’s first game in charge will be against Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday. Despite not technically holding the position during their FA Cup match with Leicester City on the weekend he still had an effect  by talking to the players at half time. The Villains went on to win the fixture 2-1 following a poor start.
