José Maria Marin told Brazilian site Lancenet that his team lost the chance to win the 2014 World Cup in the quarter-finals, not in the semi-finals.

“The truth is that we have to face the reality. In my view, we lost the World Cup against Colombia” said Marin said in an interview published today.

He claims that the injuries suffered by Neymar after a tackle from Juan Camilo Zuniga ended their hopes. The talisman fractured his third lumbar vertebra and missed the remaining games.

“In the match against Germany the players’ thoughts were with Neymar instead of being on the opponent,” said Marin. “It caused a huge psychological problem”.

Germany beat Brazil 7-1 in a historic semi-final.
