A scrappy first half at the Amex Stadium saw neither David Stockdale nor Artur Boric tested in their respective goals, and it appeared that the second half would go much the same way. Chris Hughton’s men had looked much more likely to break the deadlock, but it remained goalless going into the break.

Somewhat surprisingly therefore, it was the away side who took the lead with twenty minutes to go. Kermorgant scored his fourteenth Championship goal of the season with a free-kick from twenty yards. The effort appeared to surprise Stockdale, who disadvantaged himself by stepping away from the ball’s destination just as the Frenchman struck the sweet shot.

Howe’s men would double their lead, and kill off the game, just inside the final ten minutes. Wilson avoided the offside trap, before jinking around Greg Halford with some excellent control, and calmly slotting past Stockdale.

The win means that the Cherries can almost taste the top flight, now sitting comfortably four points clear at the summit of the Championship table. Just four games stand between them reaching the promised land for the first time in their history.
