Raheem Sterling has been the talk of the football world since his interview with the BBC where he revealed that contract talks with Liverpool have been put on hold until the summer.

Since that interview, the youngster has come under fire in recent sections in the media, but his Anfield teammate Lucas has been impressed with the way the England man has handled the situation.

“It’s incredible how much he (Sterling) can achieve.” he told Sky Sports

“He’s got all the potential and of course there has been a lot of talk about his contract situation but he’s dealing with it well on the pitch.” the Brazilian midfielder added.

Meanwhile Lucas has also praised his fellow countryman Phillipe Coutinho, whose goal in the FA Cup replay against Blackburn Rovers in midweek sealed Liverpool’s passage into the semi-final where they will meet Aston Villa:

“He’s been scoring important goals for us and that’s what makes people talk about him.”

“He knew he had to add goals to his game and he’s doing that this season. I think he’s got everything. You see the way he plays and how quick he thinks, he could be on the stage of world-class players. He’s only young.” he added.

Lucas will be hoping the two midfielders can combine to full effect in Monday night as they look to get back to winning ways in the league when an out-of-form Newcastle United side visit Anfield.

Back-to-back defeats against Manchester United and Arsenal has left the Reds with an outside chance of achieving Champions League qualification next season, but they could close the gap on the top-four to just four points if results go their way over the weekend.
