The Blues have been linked to the Argentine for much of the campaign, as Jose Mourinho looks to add firepower to his attack for the following season.

And, according to the Telegraph, Internazionale boss Roberto Mancini is building a list of potential replacements for the forward, as Icardi’s departure in the summer is expected by the Italian giants – in news that will delight the Chelsea boss.

Reports in Italy claim that Inter have placed Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez at the top of their transfer wish-list. Though the German has scored just four times in the Italian top flight this term, and at 29-years-old surely isn’t the ideal successor to the young Icardi…

The 22-year-old has been in stunning form this scoring – scoring 16 times in Serie A – just one goal behind top scorer Carlos Tevez.

But with Mancini eager to rebuild his squad in the summer (via the Daily Mail) – in an attempt to finally make a return to the Champions League next season – the club are prepared to cash in.
