Jose Mourinho was reportedly planning to add the pair to his squad in the summer as they look to mount a serious challenge in the Champions League next season after crashing out of this year’s competition on the away goals rule to Paris Saint-Germain at Stamford Bridge last month.

The Portuguese manager is a huge fan of Varane having worked with the French defender at the Bernabeu and wants to bring him to West London in order to create a partnership with Kurt Zouma, which has the potential to be the best in the world in the coming years.

While Bale’s future in Spain continues to be speculated in the media and it was reported earlier in the week that Los Blancos would turn their attentions to Eden Hazard should the Welshman depart in the summer.

If the Premier League champions elect are genuinely interested in the pair then it would appear that any deal may have to involve the Belgian international who has been instrumental in their title charge this season.
