Brendan Rodgers vows to make ‘marquee signings’ this summer to make Liverpool title contenders again

With ambitious transfer targets this summer—including striking trio Memphis Depay, Christian Benteke and Danny Ings—Liverpool are in need of funds, and Brendan Rodgers will surely be looking at his squad and wondering who could be offloaded.

The Italy striker should be at the top of the pile.

As noted recently by the Daily Mail, Balotelli has cost the Merseysiders £19.24 million per goal and £962,000 per shot on target.

If Rodgers is to inject new life into his forward line, then he must offload the forward and his £90,000 per week wages.

The Italy forward appears to lack the motivation to truly make a difference at the elite level of the game any more, and he has too often gone missing for Liverpool, delivering a series of anonymous performances when he has been given game time by the coach.

It’s hard to envisage Balotelli turning things around at Anfield, although there may still be one or two clubs with the resources to take him off the Reds’ hands.

Whether they’d want to is another question altogether…
