The 34-year-old rose to head in a corner in the eighth minute, a sight which will have become familiar to the Stamford Bridge faithful over the many years of his time in the side. Even though the London side scored it, the goal is actually far more important in the Reds’ season than theirs.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will be unable to qualify for the Champions League if they lose today, with it possibly leaving them seven points behind fourth placed Manchester United with two games left to play. The Northern Irishman could even find his own position at the club under scrutiny if this happens, after also failing to secure a trophy this season.

As such it will important for the Reds to get back in to the game quickly. Will they be able to do it?
