Reports broke on Monday that the England international is going to tell the Merseyside club that he wants to leave at the end of the season, but his representative claims that nothing is final yet. With over three months left until the transfer window shuts, this is a story that could run and run.

However, Ward did confirm that the winger will be having talks with manager Brendan Rodgers and the Anfield hierarchy later in the week, which could mean that the agent is simply reluctant to confirm anything until they have had the chance to speak with the club.

He said: “The story has been blown somewhat out of proportion. Raheem and his representatives have a meeting scheduled with Liverpool later this week, and we will take proceedings from there.”

The youngster still has two years left on his current contract, but his performances over the last two seasons have done enough to earn him a new deal. A £100,000 a week offer has already been turned down, and Reds fans will be worried that yet another of their key stars could be leaving the team.

Luis Suarez joined Barcelona last year, and captain Steven Gerrard is set to got to MLS side LA Galaxy at the end of the season. Arsenal have been linked to Sterling by the Metro, and look the most likely to take advantage of this situation.
