A move to Manchester United this summer would supposedly be ‘tempting for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger due to the offer of first-team football, according to the Sunday Times.

The German international, who has been captain of his national side since the retirement of club team-mate Philipp Lahm, is desperate to ensure he stays part of the team, and feels that won’t be guaranteed if he is not featuring week in, week out for Pep Guardiola’s side.

It seems like Schweinsteiger might no longer be a guaranteed starter at the Allianz Arena, with the player not always managing to find his best form for his club in the 2014/15 season.

The 30-year-old is also tempted by the chance to work under his old manager Louis van Gaal again, the Times states, with the Dutchman proving a key figure in his development during their time working together at Bayern.

Van Gaal is now making quite an impression at Old Trafford, guiding the club back into the top four of the Premier League last season and now looking to continue making big-name signings after splashing out on the likes of Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw in his first year in charge.

The Daily Mirror claims that another midfielder looks to be on his way to United this summer as a £25m move for Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin nears completion, but there could certainly be a place for a player of Schweinsteiger’s calibre as well, with his experience surely likely to prove beneficial in this relatively youthful Red Devils squad which has lost senior players such as Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in the last few years.
