Aston Villa chase experienced White Hart Lane forward.

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has set his sights on Tottenham forward Emmanuel Adebayor as he prepares for the exit of Liverpool bound striker Christian Benteke according to the Sunday Mirror.

Sherwood knows the 31-year-old Togo international well from his brief stint in charge at White Hart Lane and will look to clinch a deal with the north London side as soon as possible.

The Sunday Mirror claim that Villa will offer around £5m for Adebayor with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy keen to wipe the marksman’s massive £100k a week salary off the club’s balance sheet.

Liverpool have made an offer of £32.5m for Benteke and that sum triggers the Belgian’s release clause (via the BBC) and as such Aston Villa could be set to lose a second star performer in quick succession.

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph performed a swift U-Turn as he opted to leave the Midlands side to join Man City, despite recently committing his future to the club (via Guardian).

Adebayor enjoyed a purple patch during the time Sherwood was Tottenham manager, the former Arsenal and Man City man bagging 11 goals in 20 Premier League starts in 2013/14, but has fallen down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino.

Harry Kane is now Pochettino’s first choice starter, with the England international netting an impressive 31 goals last season, with Adebayor scoring just two Premier League goals in the last campaign.

Though Adebayor is perhaps not at his best at present it is worth noting that the experienced forward has netted 96 Premier League goals over the course of his spells at Arsenal, Man City and Tottenham.
