Manchester United DISMISS interest in £36m-rated La Liga defender

Manchester United have reportedly ruled out a move for Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi.

Reports in the media earlier in the week claimed the Red Devils were closing in on the £36million-rated Los Che defender’s signature, however, Sky Sports have revealed the Argentina international is not on manager Louis van Gaal’s list of transfer targets.

United have been linked with a host of central defenders this summer and after seeing their pursuit of Real Madrid superstar Sergio Ramos prove unsuccessful, it appeared they were set to lure Otamendi to Old Trafford in a bid to bolster that department for the new season.

With Jonny Evans surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, Marcos Rojo still short of match sharpness following his exploits at this summer’s Copa America tournament and Phil Jones’ injury, van Gaal was forced to deploy Daley Blind alongside Chris Smalling at the heart of United’s defence in the 1-0 victory over Tottenham last weekend.

It appears van Gaal was impressed with the makeshift centre-back pairing if reports are true that he has dropped his interest in Otamendi.
