Liverpool ready to accept £7m as Premier League side target flop forward Mario Balotelli

Newly-promoted Premier League side Watford are keen on Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli, according to Sky Italia (via the Independent).

The 25-year-old Italian international has fallen so far down the Anfield pecking order that he is now not even part of Liverpool’s matchday squad.

Brendan Rodgers hasn’t even selected the former Manchester City and AC Milan man to sit on his Liverpool bench, and this with Daniel Sturridge still sidelined with a hip injury, leaving the Reds short of star power in attack.

Liverpool have seen new signing Christian Benteke impress in the club’s opening two Premier League fixtures of the season, the Belgian scoring on his home debut to help his side to a narrow 1-0 win over Bournemouth courtesy of a contentious effort that may well have been offside.

Rodgers has Danny Ings available as a straight striker backup for Benteke, and one imagines Sturridge will then battle the former Aston Villa man for a starting spot once he is fully fit.

Indeed Liverpool also have Roberto Firmino to call upon, who can play up front as well as in an advanced attacking midfield role, leaving little scope for Balotelli to feature.

Sky Italia, via The Independent, state that Hornets owner Giampaolo Pozzo is interested in Balotelli, and the same source states that Liverpool would accept around £7m for the striker.

Balotelli netted just one goal in 16 Premier League appearances last season, but did prove more effective when at City, scoring 20 times in 54 appearances, albeit 21 of those from the bench.
