Manchester United launch club-record €85m for World Cup-winning attacker

Manchester United have made an offer of €85m (£59.9m) bid for Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller according to Bild (via the Daily Mirror).

Muller, who Louis van Gaal knows well from his time in charge at the Allianz Arena, is one of Europe’s most consistent attackers, and is a versatile player who can play either out wide or in a central striking role.

Although still just 25 years of age, the German international has already achieved so much, having won four Bundesliga titles, a Champions League winner’s medal and a World Cup.

Muller is a player who could greatly strengthen van Gaal’s Man United attack.

The international is a lanky, powerful forward, who has the touch and vision to work effectively as a winger, whilst also possessing the stature to provide an ideal target man for both club and country and his tally of 150 goals for Bayern Munich and the German national side is proof of that ability.

Despite the fact that Pep Guardiola has boosted his Bayern Munich squad with the summer signings of Douglas Costa and Arturo Vidal, the Spanish boss would be loath to lose Muller, and having already seen one star player leave for Old Trafford, Bastian Schweinsteiger, one wonders just how likely the German giants would be willing to sell another to Man United.

The €85m (£59.9m) fee quoted by Bild, via the Daily Mirror, would trump the club-record fee United paid for Angel Di Maria, a transfer that has since proven to be something of a disaster.
