Old Trafford side enter race for Stamford Bridge target.

Man United are ready to go head to head with Chelsea in pursuit of Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann according to the Daily Star.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a superb debut season at the Vicente Calderon, netting 25 goals in all competitions, and has recently signed a new contract with his La Liga employers which includes an increased release clause set at €80m (£58m).

Louis van Gaal has seen his side net just two goals in their opening three Premier League fixtures, and one of those came via a Kyle Walker own goal, and as such the Dutch boss could well do with another strong option in the final third.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho may have designs on bringing in Griezmann and using him out on the flank, where he can prove most effective, and would offer the Blues a far better option than the likes of Willian and Juan Cuadrado and would keep the likes of Pedro and Diego Costa on their toes.
