Manchester United set minimum target for Champions League this season – can Van Gaal deliver?

This is what LVG has been told he must achieve this season.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal must take his side to at least the quarter-finals of the Champions League this season, according to reports.

The Dutchman helped guide the club back into the top four last season to qualify for the competition, but must now recover from an opening day defeat to PSV.

According to the Manchester Evening News, a spokesman has set the target of a quarter-final place – the same as United reached under David Moyes back in 2014.

Still, this could be asking a lot from a relatively youthful team that is still finding its feet in this new era post-Sir Alex Ferguson.
