Gary Neville set to rival Manchester United for £25m EPL hotshot

New Valencia coach Gary Neville is understood to be targeting Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy as his first signing at the Mestalla.

However, should he decide to move for sharp-shooter Vardy, the ex-England right-back may have to compete in the transfer market with his beloved Manchester United, with the Daily Star reporting that the Red Devils are also keen on the international forward.

Vardy recently broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s record for scoring in consecutive Premier League fixtures, and while his streak came to an end in the Foxes’ 3-0 away victory over Swansea City on Saturday, the former non-league striker’s reputation and standing has been transformed by his form.

As such, the tabloid report that United—themselves struggling for goals—are keen on a move for the 28-year-old.

Neither Memphis Depay nor Anthony Martial have proved that they can lead the line for potential title contenders, while pacy Vardy has proved that he can terrorise EPL defences on a regular basis.

However, the Red Devils face unlikely competition from former stalwart and skipper Neville, who also sees Vardy as a potential key addition as he looks to restore some of Valencia’s lost lustre.

Leicester, however, are insistent that Vardy—who they value at £25 million according to the Star—will not be going anywhere in the upcoming transfer window.
